Getting to Know You: Corporate Accounting Manager, Nataliia Sullivan

I joined Insource in December 2019—over five years ago! I’m currently the Corporate Accounting Manager. I started as a staff accountant on the consulting team, then moved up to senior accountant, and later became a corporate senior accountant on the corporate team. Now, I’m the Corporate Accounting Manager.

How did you find Insource?
I found Insource on Indeed—by accident, actually! I was doing accounting at another company and was curious about growth opportunities, even though I wasn’t actively looking for a new job. Insource sounded like it had a good work environment and interesting clients, so I applied, and within two weeks, I was hired!

How was the interview process?
I had an in-person interview at the office. It started with a phone screening with the corporate recruiter, who made sure I was a good fit. Then, I went to the office and had several interviews on the same day. The process is different now, with most interviews happening online. I also had a second round of interviews that included a task.

What were your main goals going in?
At my previous job, I felt stuck. There wasn’t much room for growth, and I wasn’t learning anything new. The managers there weren’t open to sharing information or financial insights, and I wanted more opportunities. Insource offered exactly that—there was a lot more scope for growth and a chance to work with smaller companies where I could do full-cycle accounting, not just focus on one part of the process.

What was your biggest challenge?
When I first joined Insource as a consultant, my biggest challenge was learning how to present myself to clients. It took a little while to work out how to handle client interactions. Later, I was promoted faster than I expected and even turned down some opportunities because I didn’t feel ready. Accepting my own growth has been a challenge, but I have a great support system, and I feel like I’m in the right place now.

What’s your day-to-day like?
Every day is different. It depends on where we are in the week, month, or year. I usually start by checking my schedule and emails. For example, this week is a payroll week, so we’re making sure everything is in order and running payroll for Insource. In the first half of the month, we focus on client billing, while the second half is dedicated to month-end close. We also compile various reports for different Insource service areas, depending on the time of year.

What opportunities are available to you?
I’ve grown very quickly at Insource, so right now, I’m focused on learning more in my current role. I’m getting more opportunities to do financial analysis instead of just handling day-to-day tasks. When I create reports, I try to add insights and analysis, not just numbers. Insource is great at promoting initiatives—if you want to implement something new or improve a process, there’s a lot of support.

What is the support like?
There’s support for new ideas, as I mentioned, but I also have personal support from different channels. I have two former managers who are incredibly smart and always available for questions or clarifications. Our CEO meets with me weekly, and we discuss any issues or ideas. If something new comes up outside of Insource, there are experts in the business who help us understand the impact and implement any necessary changes.

What are you most proud of?
When I joined the corporate team about a year ago, I started working on accounts receivable and our collections process. Just over a year later, our accounts receivable are lower than they’ve ever been, and our age analysis is better than it’s ever been. It’s really gratifying to see that progress.

What do you do for fun?
My husband and I love hiking and traveling. We’re currently obsessed with national parks—we’ve explored seven in the past two years! We love discovering new places and enjoying the beautiful nature trails in and around Massachusetts.

Was Insource the right fit for you?

Oh yes—absolutely! I think I’m going to be here until I retire. One of the things I love about Insource is that I’ve never had to ask for a promotion or a raise. All my managers have come to me and said, “We see what you’re doing, and it’s great. We think you can take on more!” It’s a company that recognizes your work and offers you new opportunities without you needing to promote yourself.
