Getting to Know You: Engineering Director, Andrey Dunin

Hi, I’m Andrey Dunin, Engineering Director at Insource. I’ve worked here for four years. I joined during the early days of COVID as a Level 1 Engineer and have since worked my way up through the ranks to become an Engineering Director. In my current role, I oversee engineering standards and ensure that the work we produce is of the highest quality. I’m also heavily involved in developing processes, guidance, and standards to maintain that quality—especially given the human factor involved in our work.

How did you find Insource?
I actually discovered Insource online, through an online recruitment site like Indeed. I’d recently moved to Florida to become an IT Director, but I found the in-house work less stimulating than client-facing work. I was looking for a new challenge, and that’s when I came across Insource.

How was the interview process?
The interview process was definitely unique – I had eleven interviews! It was incredibly thorough. Since it was during COVID, everyone I needed to speak with was in a different time zone, so we had to coordinate multiple meetings. It was a lot, but it gave me a comprehensive understanding of the company and the role.

What were your main goals going in?
I was under-stimulated in my previous role, so I was really looking for a challenge. I can confidently say that there hasn’t been a day at Insource where I haven’t felt challenged, and that’s exactly what I was hoping for.

What was your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge has been maintaining the high level of quality we strive for, given our diverse client base and the range of skill sets within our team. The human factor introduces a lot of variability, and managing that while ensuring consistent quality is no small feat.

What’s your day-to-day like?
There really isn’t a typical day for me. Every day involves meeting with both internal and external client teams, addressing escalations of technical issues, and dealing with process challenges. I spend a lot of time coaching team members and pushing things through to ensure they happen. The work is varied and challenging – but in a good way! A unique aspect of Insource is that we don’t offer cookie-cutter solutions to clients. Every solution is bespoke, tailored to the client’s needs – that’s our secret sauce. It makes the work more interesting, and it makes process creation interesting, too.

What opportunities are available to you?
One of the great opportunities at Insource is being involved in the actual development of the processes and standards we adhere to. There’s a strong emphasis on quality and staff development, and it’s not just an opportunity – it’s a privilege.

What is the support like?
The support here is fantastic. Everyone is so aligned towards the same goals that it feels like support is built into the culture. It’s just the way we work – we don’t even think of it as support; it’s simply what we do.

What are you most proud of?
I’m really proud of the work we do for our non-profit clients. It’s incredibly inspiring. When you’re helping a client who’s running soup kitchens and making a real difference in people’s lives, that’s meaningful work. I’m very proud to be a part of that.

What do you do for fun?
A lot of my job is fun! But outside of work, I love hiking, hitting the gym, and spending time at the beach – Florida has some great beaches. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my children, and doing anything outdoors.
