Getting To Know You: Finance & Accounting Manager Jessica Gomez
I’m originally from Puerto Rico, and I found Insource through word of mouth. A friend, who is also an employee here, kept telling me how great it was to work at Insource. It took me some time to believe her words, but eventually, I decided to take a chance—only to find that she was absolutely right! Insource is different from other firms; they genuinely care for both the employees and the clients. Always looking for a balance that works best and is fair for the client, the employee as well and the company. I fell in love with Insource to the point that I am looking forward to celebrating my third-year anniversary next April!
How did you find Insource?
I was referred by a colleague who still works here today. She was my staff member in Puerto Rico, and when she moved to Boston and discovered Insource, she reached out to tell me how great the company is. At Insource, they foster respect and acceptance through initiatives like affinity groups, and I’ve always felt like I belong and that I’m valued here. It’s made such a big difference in my work experience.
How was the interview process?
The interview process was spectacular—unbelievable, really! The process moved quickly. Every time I submitted paperwork, the HR Team responded right away. During the process, I met with all three leadership teams and the founders. It gave me a real sense that the leadership is both reachable and approachable. The whole experience was smooth and efficient.
What were your main goals going in?
When I started, I came on board as a Senior Accountant, and my goal was to work my way to becoming a manager. Just three months after I started, I received a call from my Team Lead who said, “We typically wait for annual reviews, but we don’t see any reason to wait in your case—we think you’re already performing at a manager level, so we’d like to promote you.” I felt in disbelief, and now my hope is to continue to support clients and my team in all ways feasible.
What was your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge has been connecting with people. When there are in-person activities, I’m often unable to attend because of distance. For example, in the celebration of the 30th anniversary, I was about 37 weeks pregnant and couldn’t get on a plane. So, I sometimes feel like I miss out on those in-person connections with colleagues, although we do make up for it with virtual meetings.
What’s your day-to-day like?
On a typical day, I start by reviewing emails, attending meetings, and checking in with my team to see if they need any support from me. I also work directly with clients, collaborating with my team to ensure we’re meeting their expectations. Client demands vary—some prefer to be trained and supported, while others want a more hands-on approach. We customize our services to each client needs, providing tailored solutions based on their specific requirements.
What opportunities are available to you?
The first substantial opportunity I had was the promotion to accounting manager. Initially, when I worked with clients, I mostly communicated through my Team Lead. Over time, the leadership team consigned the relation with the clients which is a huge step. It’s been a great opportunity to build and maintain relationships and connect with our clients on a deeper level as well as with the staff. Growing opportunities are at the reach of every member of the team. Your optimism and dedication will dictate how far you can go.
What is the support like?
The support at Insource is palpable. I have weekly meetings with my senior manager, Rondi Chapman, where we discuss the work done, the upcoming tasks, any challenges or new ideas for our clients and at the company level. These meetings are a great opportunity to have another perspective and expand my knowledge, share suggestions, contribute ideas and to improve efficiency to serve our clients in the best possible manner.
What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of the teamwork here. Everyone is quick to respond and eager to help. There’s this sense of, “What do we need? Let’s get together and make it happen.” It creates a supportive environment where everything feels like a team effort, and that makes the job easier and more enjoyable.
Besides the teamwork, one of the things I love most about Insource is that many of our clients are nonprofit organizations that aim to make a positive impact. It’s inspiring to see the work they do, whether it’s helping communities have equal opportunities in education, healthy food, access to health services, or sustainable farming. Knowing that you are supporting entities that are making a difference is incredibly rewarding.
What do you do for fun?
I love jogging and spending time with my one-year-old daughter. I also enjoy traveling with family and friends.
Was Insource the right fit for you?
Absolutely! Insource offers the flexibility to balance work and personal life, allowing me to spend time with my family, travel, and still stay on top of my responsibilities.
