Getting To Know You: Senior Finance & Accounting Manager Rondi Chapman
Hi, I’m Rondi Chapman, Senior Finance and Accounting Manager at Insource. I serve in a fractional Chief Financial Officer and Controller capacity with our clients, overseeing budgeting, cash management, and strategy. I often actively manage and mentor internal staff in my consultant capacity as the staff and team grow into their roles.
How did you find Insource?
I work part-time, and I was looking on LinkedIn for part-time work in finance. The role at Insource came across my screen, and when I did a search, I saw that I knew someone there! Through some research, I found that I had met Russ before at a networking event. Once I made the connection, I reached out to Russ, and that began the interview process.
How was the interview process?
The interview was almost 4 years ago, and it was in person. I met with the recruiter and the hiring manager and had five interviews in total, which included some phone calls, before being offered the position.
The offer was given within 2 weeks, so the process was fast. Insource came to me with an offer that I gladly accepted.
What were your main goals going in?
My goal was to go down to part-time work, I knew I wanted to work less. But I also needed a challenge to prevent me from getting bored. I was drawn to consulting as I knew that I could have new things on my plate with different clients and industries. There are plenty of learning curves and changes.
The challenge comes when you have multiple clients who have high-priority issues. I like having lots of different things going on. It allows me to not work full-time for all of my clients but I can help them – and if something can’t be done, I can get them help.
What was your biggest challenge in your role?
The hardest part of my role is finding a strategy for cash-flow-challenged clients that is going to work for them in an ongoing process. There isn’t always an obvious solution at hand. With non-profits, they are reliant on contributions which is out of their control. It is a big challenge, but it is also what makes it fun. I enjoy any role where they need me as opposed to a person filling a role – they need my expertise and I am glad to help.
What’s your day-to-day like?
My day-to-day is never the same and I wouldn’t want it any other way. My part-time schedule is very autonomous in terms of my work hours. Part of the role is meeting-based so it offers flexibility around my calendar. I am busier some weeks versus others, so it depends on what my clients need as well as my life needs. I have two kids that need me, so having a job that gives me the ability to be there for both work and family is key.
What opportunities are available to you?
I have the opportunity to meet a lot of different people in my role at Insource. I have plenty of chances to coach people and share my knowledge to help individuals grow in their careers and help them approach new situations. I like to leave a positive impact on people.
I also have learned a lot about my client’s various industries. For example, I recently was able to learn about the fishing industry, which I knew nothing about before I started working for the client.
What is the support like?
At Insource, there is always support if I need it. At any time or day, I feel comfortable that I can reach out to my team and get a response ASAP.
What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud that I have found a way to feel like I am doing a good job as a Senior Finance & Accounting Manager, as well as a mother. This job has allowed me to find the right balance.
Skiing is required in my household! My family and I ski 22 times a year! I also enjoy playing pickleball and quilting. We own a lake house so on a summer weekend, you can find me on the boat!
Was Insource the right fit for you?
Insource was the right fit for me. I was searching for a meaningful job where I could also be a present mother – and I’ve found both here!
