Getting To Know You: Senior IT Manager Lorelei Olson
Hi, my name is Lorelei Olson, and I’m a Senior IT Manager here at Insource. I joined the company in 2021 as an IT Manager and was promoted to Senior IT Manager after nine months.
How did you find Insource?
I worked with Insource at my previous job, and I found the job posting on Indeed.
How was the interview process?
To anyone applying, do not let the interview process deter you. I had about 4 or 5 interviews before I was hired. It can be very long which is good as you also get the opportunity to meet many of the people you will be working with, which allows you to know for sure that Insource is the right fit for you too.
What were your main goals going in?
I wanted to work somewhere that had a better work-life balance and had more growth opportunities.
What was your biggest challenge?
It was a huge challenge going from being very hands-on to managing projects more at a distance. My manager was very accommodating and pushed for me to do as much hands-on work as possible as I transitioned into my new role.
What’s your day-to-day like?
I spend a lot of time coordinating with clients and my team, reviewing projects and open tickets. This offers an opportunity for the team to receive assistance and solve more complicated issues as a team. I check in with clients, build relationships and run through tasks to keep the projects on track. I also spend time writing reports such as security reports and project proposals, and meeting with potential clients.
What opportunities are available to you?
I have been given the opportunity to join or start focus groups here at Insource. For example, I facilitate the Security Incident Response team and I am also a member of the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEI).
What is the support like?
I was given fantastic support around family care. The team supported my gradual return to work after my maternity leave. I have also seen others around me being given support around health and other important life matters.
What are you most proud of?
When I finished my first assessment, assessments are huge audit reports. This went well and the client took our recommendations, and we are still working with this client today.
What do you do for fun?
I compete in dog sports with my dog, mainly in agility.
Was Insource the right fit for you?
It is a great place to work, with plenty of challenging and exciting projects while offering a good work-life balance.
